The Rev. Sheri Fry

Gathering in God’s Name Chimes After the chimes, we invite you to use this time to make the transition from getting here to being here. Take these few minutes to silently prepare for worship and allow the Spirit to refresh you. Prelude Choral and Scherzo from Suite Modale Flor Peeters (1903-1986) Invitation to Ministry *Opening Hymn 461 God Is Here! (Abbot’s Leigh) *Corporate Confession (Unison) Creator God, you call us like a good parent to you to guide and protect us, to nourish and lead us. Yet like unruly children we strain at your guidance, we break away and do it ourselves. We feel our strength and imagine to be all powerful. We know our talents and want to be independent rather than depend on you. We are in the grip of other powers, leading us away from your loving ways. Open our eyes and our hearts that we may learn that neither race or tribe, culture or religion are barriers to separate us but that we are all one family in your love. So open our hearts and minds to learn again to live your love as we celebrate and worship together. *Assurance of God’s Love *Response *The Passing of the Peace Please greet your neighbors with: The Peace of God be with you. Listening for God’s Word Word to the Children *When the music begins, children are invited to gather on the chancel steps. This, this is where children belong, part of our family, part of our song. Be with us, pray with us, help us grow strong: this is where children belong. Prayer for Illumination (Unison) Soften our hearts, attune our ears, and open our minds to your Word for us this day. Amen. Lesson Mark 3:20-35 (New Testament Pew Bible page 32) Response to Reading Leader: Listen to the voice of the Spirit speaking to the Church. Response: Thanks be to God. Offertory Praise the Lord from Judas Maccabeus George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) Praise the Lord. Let songs of joy break forth. Sing alleluia. Praise His name forevermore. Shout, sing and dance; come dance and celebrate. Rejoice, let all within us praise His name. O praise His holy name forevermore. *Response All Things Are Thine (Wareham) *Prayer of Dedication (Unison) God, you have so greatly loved us, long sought us, and mercifully redeemed us. Give us grace that in everything we may yield ourselves, our wills and our works, a continual thank-offering to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper Invitation to the Lord’s Table Great Thanksgiving Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Leader: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Gracious God, creator of heaven and earth. You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life. When we turned away, and our love failed, your love remained steadfast. You have been faithful to us through all generations and continue to speak to us today. We praise You for this table of love You spread in the world as a sign of Your love for all people. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join in their unending song: Eucharistic Prayer The Lord’s Prayer (Unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Words of Institution Communion of the People We will share the Sacrament of Communion by intinction. Please come forward to break off a piece of the communion bread and dip the bread into the communion cup. If you prefer to be served where you are seated, please signal a server. A gluten-free option is offered from the server on the pulpit side of the aisle holding the blue chalice. The Presbyterian tradition does not include a specific rite for first Communion. Our parents decide when their children are ready to participate. Communion Music Aria Flor Peeters (1903-1986) Organ Ave Verum K.618 W.A. Mozart (1756-1791) Choir *Prayer of Thanksgiving (Unison) Gracious God, you have made us one with all your people in heaven and earth. You have fed us with the bread of life and renewed us for your service. Help us, who have shared Christ’s body and received his cup, to be faithful disciples, so that our daily living may reflect your presence among us, and our love be your love, reaching out into the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *Closing Hymn 2236 Gather Us In (Sing the Faith Hymnal) Sending in God’s Love Charge & Benediction Chorale from “Seeded in the Stars” John Kuzma Age after age have given us art and beauty, song and dance, knowledge and wisdom beyond what we can gauge though we still hear their song and we still dance their dance, swirling, singing, singing as the avatars, of the multiplicitous stars, glad that the dust of cosmic storms finds in our life and love so many varied forms, singing as the leaves of the vast wood, glad to swirl in patterns unpredictable but beautiful and good.
