Although most often use the word "decadent" is used to refer to either a super-rich chocolate desert or some form of immorality, Jacques Barzun, the great cultural critic used it as a technical description of a society that fallen into economic stagnation, institutional decay and cultural and intellectual exhaustion even while it is at a high level of material prosperity and technological development." A society becomes "decadent" when things begin to seem futile and we ind ourselves willing to put up with the absurd. Using Moses great sermon to the people of Israel on the plain of Moab, Dr. Keck will encourage us to choose something better in our cultural, religious and personal lives than the decadence that seems to surround us.
