Series: Good News to Believe

We can get conditioned by this world's view of things. For instance, there is a belief that true peace is the absence of conflict or difficulty. While peace could be described in that way, it is a limited description. ---------- True peace actually comes in understanding that concepts like contentment, joy, fulfillment, and yes, peace, are actually an internal quality that is not dependent on the circumstances of life. We can find peace in the midst of trying conditions, discouraging situations, and overwhelming storms. As Christian singer Scott Krippayne once sang, "Sometimes He calms the storms and other times He calms His child." In short, His presence brings peace!

Episode Notes

Matthew 14:22-33; Mark 6:45-52

Big Idea:  Real peace doesn’t come from avoiding storms…

But from being in the presence of Jesus.

1.  Jesus allows us to go through storms so that His power can be seen.

(Journal) John 6:16-19

Isaiah 43:1b-3a, Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you… For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Nehemiah 9:32, Now, therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to You that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all Your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day.

2.  Jesus allows us to go through storms so that we are compelled to worship.

(Journal) John 6:20-21

Matthew 2:10-11, When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered Him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Matthew 28:8-9, So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.

Next Step:  How do you see God’s power revealed?

How can you respond with a more mature worship?

Psalm 29:1-11, Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over many waters… The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to His people! May the LORD bless His people with peace!
