This, the first of His signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory. And his disciples believed in Him. --John 2:11 ---------- The word "miracle" is another one of those words that tends to get overused in our culture. The concept of the miraculous is not simply something amazing that we have never seen before or something that seems impossible by human standards, it is literally impossible by human ability or ingenuity. ---------- To be more succinct, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a miracle as, "an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs." The key is that God's blessed intrusion into the normalcy of life must be a part of the definition. ---------- This Sunday, Frank begins our latest mini-series in the book John, focusing on the seven signs (miracles) that John intentionally records to verify Christ's divinity and Lordship over His creation.

Episode Notes

(Journal) John 2:1-11

Big Idea:  Jesus often chooses the everyday events of our lives to show up in supernatural ways.

1.  Jesus revealed His glory.

(Journal) John 2:11, This, the first of His signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory.

2nd Corinthians 4:3-4, And even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

2nd Corinthians 4:6, For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2.  Disciples revealed their faith.

(Journal) John 2:11, This, the first of His signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory. And His disciples believed in Him.

John 20:30-31, Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

James 2:14-17, What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Next Step:  Look back on this past week…. How have you seen God show up?

Anticipate His involvement in your life, recognize Him, and thank Him.
