As the church of Acts begins another new chapter, it is clear that it was not a place for the for casual faith. Most evident is the character of the church especially seen in the lives of leaders like Stephen!

Episode Notes

Acts 6:3-5, Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit…

Acts 6:8, And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.

Acts 7:51-53, You stiff- necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.

Acts 7:54-60, Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.  And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”  But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.  Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him.  And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.  And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”  And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”  And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Nothing can DEFEAT my love for LOST people.

1.  My faith overcomes ABANDONMENT

Hebrews 13:5-6, For He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my Helper;  I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

2.  My faith overcomes ACCUSATIONS

Titus 2:7-8, Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

3.  My faith overcomes ABUSES

Luke 23:33-34, And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on His right and one on His left.  And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”  And they cast lots to divide His garments.

Challenge:  I will trust God to build my FAITH as I build my CHARACTER
