Build Strong

Series: You've Heard It Said

Frank Foreman

The final sermon in the series of messages on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7. In His teaching, Jesus clearly teaches that as followers of Christ, reflecting his character, we are called to live above the expectations of the world ... that we are called to meet more than the minimum requirements.

Episode Notes

Matthew 7:24-27 ... Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

Matthew 7:28-29 ... And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at His teaching, for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

Don’t just be a HEARER of Jesus’ words…  Be a DOER of Jesus’ teaching

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "BUILD STRONG"?

1.  You are not in a HURRY

Matthew 13:5-6, 20-21 ... Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched.  And since they had no root, they withered away…  As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

  • Don’t rush into a spiritual HIGH just to fall out of it LATER

2.  You give maximum EFFORT

James 1:2-4 ... Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

  • Commit to working in the DIFFICULT soil in order to build on the ROCK

3.  You are TEACHABLE

1st Corinthians 6:11 ... And such were some of you.  But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

  • Recognize that you have a PROBLEM so that you can look for the SOLUTION
