Series: Good News to Believe

John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. With apologies to Beauty and the Beast, "For God so loved the world..." is truly a tale as old as time. When we think of the character of God and focus on His love, this is the verse that both summarizes and defines the extent of God's love for mankind... for each of us individually as well. ---------- This Sunday, we start our latest mini-series within the series on the book of John, as we turn our attention to the Character of God illustrated throughout this Gospel. ---------- The full extent of God's love is not simply meant to be admired from a distance, but embraced as the gift it truly is but also as the example it sets for how we should treat and view others around us.

Episode Notes

Big Idea: Extreme love leads to extreme action.

1.  God’s extreme love leads to eternal life.

(Journal) John 3:16-18, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Ephesians 2:4-5, But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

2.  God’s extreme love leads to exposing light.

(Journal) John 3:19-21, And this is the judgment: the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light because their works were evil.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the Light and does not come to the Light, lest his works should be exposed.

But whoever does what is true comes to the Light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.

Ephesians 5:8-9, For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

Next Step: God’s extreme love is seen in the giving of His only Son…

How can we respond with extreme love for God?

Psalm 51:10, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
