Hannah: A Godly Mother

Series: Stand Alone Sermons

Hannah longed to have the joy of having a child, but she was never able. Her earnest prayers were eventually answered and, as a response to that blessing, she fully dedicated herself to being a Godly mother. The direct result of her prayers and her commitment was that she became the mother of one of the greatest prophets of Israel--a man of God fully committed to serving God. No doubt he saw that example first in his mother.

Episode Notes

1st Samuel 1

Big Idea:  It takes a strong mother to make a strong child.

1.  Turn to God during your time of need.

1st Samuel 1:10-11, She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your servant and remember me and not forget Your servant, but will give to Your servant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”

Psalm 105:4-5, Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His presence continually!

Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered….

2.  Praise God when He answers your prayer.

1st Samuel 1:19-20, They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the LORD.”

Psalm 150:1-2, Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty Heavens! Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

3.  Honor your commitment to God even when difficult.

1st Samuel 1:27-28, For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to Him. Therefore I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD.” And he worshiped the LORD there.

Matthew 22:37-38, And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.

John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Next Step:  Value the strong ladies in your life.
