Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." --John 6:35 Have you ever eaten a big meal--one of those ones where your "eyes were bigger than your stomach"--and then were so full that you thought you would never be hungry again? Of course, no matter how full we were, we eventually get hungry again and need to eat. ---------- One of the statements Jesus makes, confirming His connection to the Father, promised a meal that would satisfy in such a way as to leave us never needing to eat or drink again. But, of course, He spoke of the spiritual satisfaction of eating the bread of life and the spiritual refreshment of His living water.

Episode Notes

(Journal) John 6:35, Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”

Big Idea:  Food does no good unless it is eaten….

Truth is of no benefit unless it leads to action.

Hebrews 4:2, For Good News came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.

1.  Eating is prompted by hunger.

(Journal) John 6:26-28, Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on Him God the Father has set His seal.”

Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

2.  Eating involves trust.

(Journal) John 6:35, Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.

Psalm 34:8, Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

3.  Eating is personal.

(Journal) John 6:66-69, After this many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that You are the Holy One of God.”

Psalm 49:7, Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life.

Next Step:  You are what you eat….

So don’t be fast, cheap, easy, or fake.

(Journal) John 20:30-31, Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this Book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.
