Revelation 21:7... All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. ---------- Rejection is one of the most common tools that the devil uses to destroy our lives. It can attack any person whether young or old, rich or poor. It can be deeply rooted and woven into their identities since childhood. It can destroy our self-esteem and prevent us from accomplishing our God-given purposes in life. ---------- Whatever the case, we've all experienced some kinds of rejection and we know it hurts. These wounds can bring about a host of other sins such as envy, blaming God, jealousy, or an unwillingness to forgive and many others. ---------- Those spiritual wounds when not dealt with are open doors for the evil spirits to invade and occupy. But, according to God’s Word, rejection erodes the foundation of character that God desires for each of us. ---------- Only God can be trusted as the source of our real identity. God never wanted us to feel rejected or abandoned. He wants us to be loved and accepted.

Episode Notes

Judges 10:17-18 (ESV) Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead. And the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah. And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

BIG IDEA: We have been created to be loved, accepted and appreciated… rejection opposes the very nature that God created in us.

John 3:16-17 (CEV) God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them!

HE WAS REJECTED, BUT HE DIDN’T LET THAT DEFEAT HIM

Judges 11:1-3… Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior, but he was the son of a prostitute. Gilead was the father of Jephthah. And Gilead's wife also bore him sons. And when his wife's sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, “You shall not have an inheritance in our father's house, for you are the son of another woman.” Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob, and worthless fellows collected around Jephthah and went out with him.

  • WE ARE ADOPTED INTO HIS FAMILY

1 John 3:1 (NIV) "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

  • WE ARE APPOINTED AS JOINT HEIRS WITH CHRIST.

Romans 8:17 " Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

  • WE ARE ALLOWED TO SIT IN HEAVENLY PLACES WITH CHRIST.

Ephesians 2:4-6 (NLT) But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.

HE WAS REJECTED, BUT HE DIDN’T LET THAT DARKEN HIM

Judges 11:4-6 After a time the Ammonites made war against Israel. 5 And when the Ammonites made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah from the land of Tob. 6 And they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our leader, that we may fight against the Ammonites.”

Judges 11:7-8… But Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Did you not hate me and drive me out of my father's house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?” And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “That is why we have turned to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the Ammonites and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

  • THE LIGHT PROHIBITS DARKNESS

John 8:12 (NIV) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

  • THE LIGHT PREVENTS STUMBLING

Psalm 56:13 (NIV) “For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life."

  • THE LIGHT PROVIDES PRESENCE

Psalm 89:15(NIV) " Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.”

HE WAS REJECTED, BUT HE DIDN’T LET THAT DEFINE HIM

Judges 11:9-11… Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight against the Ammonites, and the Lord gives them over to me, I will be your head.” And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “The Lord will be witness between us, if we do not do as you say.” So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and leader over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before the Lord at Mizpah.

He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

Isaiah 53:3-6

  • WE ARE VICTORIOUS BY FAITH IN GOD

1 John 5:4-5 (NIV) 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

  • WE ARE VICTORIOUS BY CONNECTION TO CHRIST

1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV) But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • WE ARE VICTORIOUS BY OBEDIENCE TO HIS WILL

Revelation 2:26 (NIV) To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations.

NEXT STEP: Don’t be defeated, darkened or defined by rejection… God wants you and calls you His child!

Revelation 21:5-7 (NLT) And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
