What does genuine humility look like? How far is God willing to go to offer and provide grace for us and to bring glory to Himself? How can we become such a reflection of that kind of grace and humility in the way we live and treat others? These are all important questions for us to consider as we learn and grow with each other.

BIG IDEA: Jesus descended from Heaven to humanity...


  1. Jesus was and is fully God in every way.


Philippians 2:5-6a, Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God...


John 10:30; 33, “I and the Father are one.”...  The Jews answered Him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stoneYou but for blasphemy, becauseYou, being a man, make Yourself God.”


  1. Jesus was and is fully God in every way.
  2. Jesus unselfishly let go of Heavenly glory.


Philippians 2:6b, Did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped...


Luke 9:57-58, As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”


  1. Jesus was and is fully God in every way.
  2. Jesus unselfishly let go of Heavenly glory.
  3. Jesus submitted to the will of the Father.


Philippians 2:7a, But emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant...


John 8:28-29, So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own authority, but speak just as the Father taught Me. And He who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”


  1. Jesus was and is fully God in every way.
  2. Jesus unselfishly let go of Heavenly glory.
  3. Jesus submitted to the will of the Father.
  4. Jesus became fully man in every way.


Philippians 2:7b-8a, Being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form...


John 1:14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.


  1. Jesus was and is fully God in every way.
  2. Jesus unselfishly let go of Heavenly glory.
  3. Jesus submitted to the will of the Father.
  4. Jesus became fully man in every way.
  5. Jesus humbled Himself to the ultimate depth.


Philippians 2:8b, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 


Galatians 3:13, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.”


BIG IDEA: Jesus descended from Heaven to humanity... So that He may ascend, taking us with Him.


Philippians 2:9-11, Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.


NEXT STEP: 

Humbly confess that Jesus is Lord...  Commit to humble and enthusiastic obedience.
