My Footprint of Love

Series: The Footprints of Christmas

December 13, 2020
Frank Foreman

God's love for us is something we recognize as powerful, gracious, merciful, etc. But in looking at the Christmas story, we see the footprints of God's love for us to follow throughout the story. The simple truth is, God's love broke through a litany of obstacles that would seem to make the birth of the Messiah--a King--at best improbable, if not impossible. --------------- But, as the angel assured Mary regarding her pregnancy, "Nothing will be impossible with God!"

Episode Notes

John 15:13, Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

BIG IDEA: Our greatest need was met by God’s greatest gift!

1. GOD'S LOVE BROKE THROUGH IN SPITE OF POLITICAL OBSTACLES.

Luke 2:1-2, In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)

2.  GOD'S LOVE BROKE THROUGH IN SPITE OF GEOGRAPHICAL OBSTACLES.

Luke 2:3-5, And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a Child.

3. GOD'S LOVE BROKE THROUGH IN SPITE OF LOGISTICAL OBSTACLES.

Luke 2:6-7, While they were there, the time came for the Baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

4. GOD'S LOVE BROKE THROUGH IN SPITE OF OCCUPATIONAL OBSTACLES.

Luke 2:8-11, And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you Good News that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.

NEXT STEP:

Consider this Christmas... What are we depending on to meet our deepest need?

Acts 4:12, Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
