Series: Authentic Faith

April 24, 2022
Frank Foreman

This week Frank Foreman begins a new series of messages from the book of James. In this letter, the brother of Jesus highlights the important, practical nature of Authentic Faith. The choices we make and actions we take will dictate the nature of our faith.

Episode Notes

(Journal) James 1:1

Big Idea:  How I handle trouble will reveal whether my faith is living or dead.

James teaches how to rightly respond to trouble:

1.  Respond with a joyful attitude.

(Journal) vs. 2

Romans 8:28, And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

2.  Respond with an understanding mind.

(Journal) vs. 3,

1st Corinthians 10:13, No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

3.  Respond with a submissive will.

(Journal) vs. 4

1st Peter. 5:10, And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

4.  Respond with a believing heart.

(Journal) vs. 5-8

Proverbs 3:5-8, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

5.  Respond with a humble spirit.

(Journal) vs. 9-11

Hebrews 4:16, Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

(Journal) vs. 12

Next Step:  I will embrace this new series as a test of my faith.

1st Peter 1:6-7, In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
