Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained

February 27, 2022
Frank Foreman

This week Frank continues our series of messages from the book of Mark. This week, we are reminded about the return of Christ. While it is tempting to look at such Scriptures and wonder about the timing of it all, the true focus of Jesus' message in Mark 13 is on our readiness. We are instructed to be vigilant and prepared each and every day of our lives as followers of Christ.

Episode Notes

Stay Awake February 27, 2022

Titus 2:11-13, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people…. waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ….

(Journal) Mark 13:24-27

Revelation 1:7-8, Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Even so. Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

(Journal) Mark 13:28-31

Big Idea:  Every Christian of every generation eagerly awaits the return of Jesus…. Heres’s how we are called to wait….

(Journal) Mark 13:32-37

1.  Be ready.

2nd Timothy 4:1-4,  I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

1st Peter 3:14-15, But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect….

2.  Be busy.

1st Timothy 4:15-16, Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Matthew 9:36-38, When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

3.  Stay awake.

Romans 12:11-13, Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

John 9:4-5, We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.

Next Step:  Live today as if the Master may return at any moment.

Romans 13:11-14, Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of Light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
