Series: The God Who Rescues

Frank Foreman

In this final message from our series on the book of Exodus, Frank looks over the final five chapters of the story. These chapters highlight God's desire to connect to us through His presence. His desire is so great that He provided a means for us to not only enter into His presence but to becoming the dwelling place for His Spirit.

Episode Notes

Pause to Consider: In what ways do you feel differently about entering into the presence of God?

BIG IDEA:

God’s presence dwells when, and where, He chooses for His purposes and for His glory...

1.  GOD THE FATHER DWELT IN THE TABERNACLE.

Exodus Chapters 35-39

  • Ark of the Covenant
  • Table of Showbread
  • Lampstand
  • Alter of Incense
  • Alter of Burnt Offering
  • Bronze Basin
  • Priestly Garments

Exodus 40:34-35, Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

2.  GOD THE SON DWELT AMONG US.

John 1:14-17, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth... For from His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Pause to Consider:  What time in history do you think may have been the greatest opportunity to experience God’s presence?

John 16:7,13, Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you...  When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth...

3.  GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT DWELLS WITHIN US.

1st Corinthians 6:19-20, Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

  • Our very bodies are God’s temple today...  We are to use them to glorify Him.

Ephesians 4:30-32, And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

NEXT STEP:

Consider the seriousness of the High Priest entering into the Holy of Holies...

That’s what it means for my body to be the dwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Memory Verse:  Exodus 35:29, All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the LORD had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the LORD.

Galatians 5:16-26

Pause to Consider:  Spend a few minutes praying that those in your group may experience being led by the Holy Spirit.
