The Source of the Gospel

Series: Unchained

January 20, 2019
Frank Foreman

This week, Frank resumes his series on Galatians with a message on "The Source of the Gospel" from Galatians 1:11-24. As he looks at the text this week, we are reminded that the true authority of the good news is that it is a divine message, given by the God of the universe and assured through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ, His Son.

Episode Notes

BIG IDEA: This Gospel didn’t come out of any man’s head, it came out of God’s heart.

1.  The Gospel’s source is supernatural…  TRUST!

Galatians 1:11-12

Colossians 2:6-8,  Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.  See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

2.  The Gospel’s foundation is truth…  BELIEVE!

Galatians 1:13-20

Hebrews 5:11-14, About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.  For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God.  You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.  But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

3.  The Gospel’s result is transformation…  CHANGE!

Galatians 1:21-24

NEXT STEP:  Be a credible witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • What in my life has the potential to hurt the credibility of my message
  • Am I willing to repent and turn away from those things?
  • How will God bless me with an opportunity to share His Gospel?

2nd Corinthians 5:17, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ezekiel 36:26-28, And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.  And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and be careful to obey My rules.  You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be My people, and I will be your God.

Romans 12:2, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Philippians 1:6, And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

2nd Corinthians 3:18, And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.  For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Psalm 51:10-12, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
