Matthew 5:16... In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven. --------- As we pull back the curtain on Ruth chapter 3, we see the story unfold further. Boaz initially showed kindness and generosity to Ruth and to Naomi, but now this situation calls for a greater commitment. We see the character of Boaz as he doesn't hesitate in his willingness to act as Kinsman Redeemer for them. ---------- Of course, the parallels to our own redemption are clear. Jesus did not hesitate but willingly offered himself as a redeemer to forgive our sins through His grace and mercy.

Episode Notes

Kinsman Redeemer: A close relative who acted on behalf of another who was in trouble, danger, or need.

Big Idea:  The experiences of Ruth and Boaz points to God’s plan to redeem us.

1.  Boaz redeemed Ruth.

Leviticus 25:48-49, …then after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him, or his uncle or his cousin may redeem him, or a close relative from his clan may redeem him. Or if he grows rich he may redeem himself.

(Journal) Ruth 3:9, He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. Spread your wings over your servant, for you are a redeemer.”

2.  Yahweh redeemed Israel.

Jeremiah 20:13, Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD! For He has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

Daniel 6:26-27, I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for He is the living God, enduring forever; His Kingdom shall never be destroyed, and His dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; He works signs and wonders in Heaven and on earth, He who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.

3.  Christ redeems us.

Mark 10:45, For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Titus 2:13-14, …waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.

Next Step:  You have been redeemed for a reason…  Go and do good.

Matthew 5:16, In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
